HAPPY BIRTHDAY JON!
Yesterday was the first day of the 2009 Van's Warped Tour at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA. Unlike the previous years, I actually went with a group of friends this time, as well as met up with more people at the show. Not much of a lone wolf this year. I doing this recap of yesterday, and I'm feeling kind of lazy, so I'm going to just repost my twitter/facebook updates of that day, and just add more information to those.

If I was writing an ongoing novel about my everyday life, maybe it would go something like this...
Volume 32, Chapter 11
Since it was time to eat dinner with my wife, I thought I would take the opportunity to try out the new soda that I bought from the supermarket recently. Diet Mountain Dew. This was a purchase that was a complete spur of the moment, and besides my loving regular Mountain Dew soda, I decided to take a gamble on this new variation.
"You know it's not going to taste good," I remembered my wife telling me at that time, as I put two boxes of the drink in the shopping cart.
"Possibly, but look, there's zero calories, carbs, and sugar, so it'll at least be a little healthier for me," which was my response in defense of my decision. I'm pretty sure I was actually trying to convince myself when I said that.
"What would you like to drink?" I asked my wife, as I walked away from the dinner table towards the refrigerator in the kitchen.
"Green Tea," she responded.
After spending a few hours at the "Hearts for Paws" Pet Expo in Orange County, CA, I found myself driving to Huntington Beach for Meg & Dia's free concert at "The Strand." This past day was also going to be the "boardie prom" so the theme was for us to be dressed up for the event. I went in a suit and tie, but I wasn't sure if I was still going to look over dressed for the occasion. Now originally I was first going to go to the hotel where the boardies from out of town are staying at, for a pre-show party. However, I got the impression that I was going to be too late for it and should just meet them all at the Strand. Well it was a little after five and there I was sitting in my car inside the parking structure at the Strand. I decided to call one of my boardie friends and ask him where they are. He told me that they are still at the hotel, and that I *should* go to the hotel as well, because they are waiting for a certain someone to show up. D'oh!
The "Hot Topic" acoustic tour is still on the roll, and unlike the Santa Anita one, I was able to get in for their show at the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, CA. Just like what I noticed from the previous Hot Topic show, the whole setup and agenda was a little bit more structured. They got us to sit down on the floor or stand at the back (which I opted for) to see the band perform, and they even told us in advance that the "meet & greet" was literally just an autograph signing with no "photo with the band" opportunity. bleah.
Meg & Dia's in store Hot Topic performance in the Santa Anita Fashion Mall was this past day. I was actually there early (saw Star Trek before the gig), but I still had a feeling that I wasn't going to be able to see their acoustic set. The people who were guaranteed to see the show were the ones with the wristbands numbered 1-30. I was number 43, which kinda made me reluctant to try and get in the show, although I was slightly hopeful. When they started funneling people in, I still did not have the means to get in, although oddly enough I could have. There was a stand by / autograph line, and I *could* have been one of the first people in that line waiting an hour earlier, but I decided not to. It turned out that they did pull several people off that line to also see the show. So mental note next time, number or not, stand in line.
If I'm not mistaken, April 3rd is Meg's birthday. Turning... 24?
So here I post, wishing you a wonderful and memorable Birthday Meg.
Once again I went to support Meg & Dia in the Sub City Take Action Tour, and this time it was at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA. Unlike the past Friday night, this time around I went specifically just for them. I skipped the official meet & greet portion before the show, and I skipped seeing the other bands like Anarbor, Every Avenue, Breathe Carolina, and Cute Is What We Aim For. I planned to show up exactly at the moment MaD was playing, but I unfortunatey was a little off because when I got there, they were already playing their cover of Blind Melon's "No Rain." However I did get to hear them perform my most favorite song of theirs; Masterpiece, capped off with a little bit of their cover for Sublime's "Santeria." It must be noted that unlike Friday's show, MaD was not the direct support this time, which was now given to Breathe Carolina. It's just as well though, because just like Hollywood, the crowd just was not as into Meg & Dia as I would have hoped.
This past night, I went to the House of Blues in Hollywood, CA for the "Sub City Take Action Tour," to see one of my favorite bands "Meg & Dia." Ofcourse that would mean that I have to drive through the horrible Los Angeles traffic, but anything for the band right? Speaking of driving, for whatever reason I decided to follow my GPS' directions to get to the HoB, when I clearly KNOW how to get there myself. The GPS got me going in many loops and turns around the city, pretty much getting me lost, and it's all because I ignored my instincts and assumed that it would get me there faster. Stupid stupid. I did eventually get there, but I was late for the meet & greet check in time (BTW, I won a meet & greet pass for this show). I did not really see that as much of a lost though, because a band like Meg & Dia is actually almost always available to meet and greet before, during, or after the show.
To blog here or not to blog here? That is the question.
I dunno, I might toss in a few things here, but I think it'll mostly be copy and paste stuff from my real blog @ http://www.xanga.com/patrick005
For sure I'll transfer over any new MaD related blog posts, but that's probably going to be it.
